Base Ingredients
- 1/2 cup dates (about 8 dates), pitted
- 1–2 tbsp hot water (optional, use only if dates are hard)
- 1/4 cup peanut butter
- 1/4 cup + 2 tbsp hemp seeds
- 2 tbsp cocoa powder
Toppings
- 1–2 tbsp chocolate chips
- More hemp seeds for topping
- Process Dates: Pit the dates and place them in a food processor. Add 1 tablespoon of hot water at a time if your dates are firm. Pulse the mixture until it forms a sticky ball.
- Combine Ingredients: Add the peanut butter, hemp seeds, and cocoa powder to the food processor. Pulse several more times until all the ingredients are well combined into a moist dough that holds its shape. If the mixture is too wet, add a little more cocoa powder to adjust the consistency.
- Chill Dough and Shape Balls: Refrigerate the dough for 15 minutes to firm it up. Using a tablespoon, scoop the dough and gently roll it into approximately 12 equally sized balls. Place the balls on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Melt Chocolate and Decorate: In a small bowl, melt the chocolate chips in the microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring between each, until smooth. Drizzle the melted chocolate over the bliss balls and sprinkle additional hemp seeds on top.
- Set and Serve: Place the chocolate-topped bliss balls back in the refrigerator to set the chocolate. Once set, they are ready to enjoy as a healthy snack or dessert.
Notes
- Use soft dates for easier processing; soak hard dates briefly in hot water if necessary.
- Peanut butter can be substituted with almond butter or any nut/seed butter of choice.
- Adjust cocoa powder quantity to control chocolate intensity and dough moisture.
- Store bliss balls in an airtight container in the fridge for up to one week or freeze for longer storage.
- For a vegan and gluten-free snack, ensure chocolate chips used are correspondingly certified.
