Ingredients

Scale

Beef Patty

  • 1 lb ground beef (80/20 blend for best flavor)
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste

Tortillas and Toppings

  • 6 small tortillas (flour or corn based on preference)
  • 6 slices cheddar cheese or American cheese
  • Lettuce, shredded
  • Tomato, thinly sliced
  • Pickles, sliced
  • Onions, thinly sliced
  • Ketchup, as desired
  • Mustard, as desired
  • Mayonnaise, as desired

Instructions

  1. Prepare the beef: Divide the ground beef into 6 equal portions. Season each portion lightly with salt and black pepper. Keep the beef portions ready for smashing.
  2. Heat the skillet: Preheat a large skillet or griddle over medium-high heat until hot enough to sizzle beef immediately upon contact.
  3. Smash the beef: Place a beef portion onto the hot skillet, then press it down firmly using a spatula or a burger press to form a thin patty. Cook for about 2 minutes without moving to develop a crust.
  4. Flip and add cheese: Carefully flip the patty and immediately place a slice of cheese on top. Cook for an additional 1-2 minutes until the cheese melts and the beef is cooked through.
  5. Warm the tortillas: While cooking the patties, warm the tortillas on a separate pan or directly on the skillet for about 30 seconds on each side until soft and pliable.
  6. Assemble the tacos: Place the cooked smash burger patty with melted cheese onto each warm tortilla. Top with your preferred burger toppings such as lettuce, tomato, pickles, onions, ketchup, mustard, and mayonnaise.
  7. Serve immediately: Fold the tortillas around the burger and toppings like a taco and serve hot for the best flavor and texture.

Notes

  • Use fresh ground beef with a good fat ratio (80/20) for juicy patties.
  • Press the patties thin to get the signature crispy edges of smash burgers.
  • If preferred, corn tortillas can be warmed directly on the skillet for extra flavor.
  • Customize toppings to your liking—jalapeños or BBQ sauce are delicious alternatives.
  • For a crispier tortilla, lightly toast each after assembling the tacos.
